Residential – Marion house

A 40-year-old cape cod in Marion, IN is remodeled and added on to.  A 12-ft by 40-ft addition includes enlarging the master bedroom, a new master bath, master closet, mechanical room, utility room and half bath.  The small existing living room and sunroom are re-constructed into a large great room with new scissor trusses to create a vaulted ceiling and match the existing roofline.  Special effects included installing a stained glass window on the south gable end of the re-constructed great room.

Practical measures included moving the furnace out from under the home into the new mechanical room, moving the electrical box, the hot water heater and water softener to the mechanical room.  A gas connection was provided for a future gas line to heat the barn and a portable generator.

New insulation, wiring, and plumbing throughout.  New flooring except where the hardwood floor could be kept in the office.

This is essentially a new home.  Why remodel instead of building a new home?  Building a new home is certainly “easier.”  One advantage is, it can save substantially on property taxes and the cost of new utility installation, especially for new country homes.  Another reason is location, i.e. the house may not be exactly what you want but it is where you want it.  It could be that your home just needs a mechanical/electrical upgrade.  What ever your preference, your home should reflect your personality and fit your lifestyle and habits.  Whether remodeling or building new, Crandall Engineering, Inc. is more concerned that you are happy with the design of your living space rather than concerned about making a big name for themselves.  Serving you in such a manner that you become one of our satisfied customers is our goal.
